Whilst there are no shortage of activities for families holidaying at the in the area, a range of hidden gems are only a short drive away. We’ve got you covered. Here are some day trips from the Gold Coast that we think are worth checking out.

O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards

Picnic with an Alpaca

A day out that the whole family will enjoy. Head over to O’Reilly’s Canungra Vineyards, located in Lamington National Park. The Vineyard is open 7 days a week and makes for a great picnic spot. You can order a picnic basket ahead of time, or opt for food from their in-house restaurant. Whilst you’re there, stroll through the vineyards and take in the sights. The kids will have a great time walking and picnicking with the alpacas from Mount View Farm which is located on the same property. Things to note, no outside food or drinks are allowed on the property.

Mount Tamborine

Glow worm caves | rainforest skywalk | rainforest walks

Less than an hour drive from the Gold Coast, Mount Tamborine is the ultimate day trip location with ample activities for children and adults alike. Book in a session at the Glow Worm Caves, open weekly or for the more adventurous, view the valley from 30m above on the Rainforest Skywalk. Mount Tamborine has some beautiful rainforests, a great way to get outdoors and active. Be sure to check out Cedar Creek Falls (safe walking area for children) or Curtis Falls whilst you’re in the area. The Scenic Rim website has more information on activities in the area.

CURRUMBIN

Wildlife Sanctuary | Elephant Rock | Rock Pools

If you’re staying at Paradise on Palm, Currumbin is only a stones throw away. Pack a picnic and spend the day out with the family. The kids will love seeing all the animals at the wildlife sanctuary, which is open daily. For an after lunch stroll head over to Elephant Rock. They have a few shaded picnic spots close by. The area has some great rockpools too. We’d recommend checking out the Currumbin Rock Pools or Cougal Cascades. If you’re in the area on a Friday, finish the day off with delicious food at the Sanctuary Markets which are held at the Wildlife Sanctuary.
